Tom: As I was thinking about my New Year’s resolutions, I wanted to check my last HealthScan report but I couldn’t find it.
Harry: Were you looking for Fall 2013?
Tom: Yes.
Harry: There was no HealthScan last fall.
Tom: Really? How’d I miss that?
Harry: Because HealthScan is changing to HealthScan Plus, part of the new Be Well program starting January 14th. The first HealthScan Plus is happening a week later.
Tom: In three weeks? I need to sign up!
Maria: Yes, and by participating in HealthScan Plus you will earn points toward rewards.
Tom: Oh, like my credit card.
Harry: (Laughs.) Something like that. This is far better because you’ll be earning points while improving your health, rather than draining your wallet.
Human Resources heard from a lot of you who were wondering “what happened to Health Scan?” during the fall semester. It’s great to know the program has developed such a loyal following over the years, especially since being aware of your health is the first step to making improvements.
As we report elsewhere in Spotlight this month, Lehigh’s new staff and faculty wellness program – Be Well – launches on January 14. HealthScan has been rolled into Be Well as an important early step in the program. After all, you can’t improve your well being if you don’t know where you’re starting from in the first place.
HealthScan Plus is a personal, preventive health screening that may determine if you have current or potential health problems. If you register for HealthScan Plus, you’ll need to fast for 12 hours prior to your appointment time. The program includes a blood draw that checks for:
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Gout
- Liver and kidney disease
- Complete Blood Count (CBC)
- HDL (good) and LDL (bad) cholesterol level
- Optional tests ($10 each) for Vitamin D, Thyroid, and Prostate issues are also available.
HealthScan Plus includes additional biometric assessments as part of the Be Well wellness program, including height, weight, and blood pressure. Lab Corp will conduct the screenings on campus on Lehigh’s behalf. Participants receive a copy of their results, and the university’s wellness program vendor, Aduro, receives notification that you participated in the program so you can earn points toward your wellness goals. Lehigh never sees your results.
Lehigh employees are eligible for one free screening per year as part of their benefits. Retirees as well as employee spouses/partners can also participate in the screening at full cost of $80.
To make it even more convenient, you can now register for your HealthScan Plusappointment online. Simply follow one of the links below to choose your date and time. And, so you don’t forget, you’ll receive a confirming email that allows you to add the appointment to your Google calendar.
January 21- 23 is just around the corner, so don’t delay. Get a time slot that works for you want by registering right away.
