The semester is over and we’re heading into summer. Don’t leave vacation days behind when the calendar flips to July 1. Use it - don’t lose it!

Vacation Leave Use or Lose Policy Basics

  • You can only carry over the amount of vacation leave you earned in the fiscal year.

  • Any vacation balance above that carry-forward amount will be forfeited and disappear at the end of the fiscal year.

  • Floating holiday hours that are not used will be forfeited and disappear at the end of the fiscal year.

  • The fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

Top Three Use or Lose Tips
  1. Use your Floating Holidays first. These do not carry over.

  2. Monitor your leave balances using Banner Self-Service.

  3. Remember that the payroll system is one pay period behind. Factor in any leave you may have taken in the last pay period when assessing your current balances.

Final Thoughts

Whether you take one day of vacation to stretch out a weekend or one week for a family adventure, your vacation leave is yours to enjoy. Plan as much as you can well in advance and make sure you don’t lose any when July 1st comes around.
