The university recently updated the Policy for Drivers of University Vehicles covering all members of the Lehigh community needing to operate a university-owned, leased or rented vehicles. The policy sets the standards by which members of the Lehigh community qualify to operate a vehicle on behalf of the university.
Who Must Comply
This policy applies to all individuals needing to operate a university-owned, leased or rented vehicle for any official university business. All categories of Lehigh community members are required to comply:
Employees (faculty and staff, wage, part-time)
Students (undergraduate, graduate, student workers, interns)
Registered volunteers
Timing of Implementation
Beginning September 1, 2026, all current employees, students and registered volunteers will be subject to this policy.
Key Requirements and Compliance Process
As part of the updated compliance process, Lehigh has contracted with the firm SafetyFirst to perform motor vehicle record monitoring on behalf of the university.
If you find yourself needing to drive a university-owned, leased, or rented vehicle, you must gain authorization first by completing the following steps:
Submit the Driver Information Form
Demonstrate Acceptable Driving Record: SafetyFirst will conduct an initial review to ensure the driver meets the acceptable driving standards outlined in the policy prior to driving a vehicle on behalf of the university.
- Complete Driver Safety Training: Complete the online Driver Safety Training through CourseSite with a score of 80% or higher.
