When a personal problem poses the potential to disrupt your personal and work life, Lehigh encourages you to take advantage of the university’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
What is an EAP?
EAPs have their origins in helping employees experiencing addiction, however, over the years, their services have grown to assist employees experiencing a wide variety of difficulties. Today, most EAPs offer referral and assessment services for *behavioral health, as well as financial, family, and work challenges.

Lehigh University is partnering with HealthAdvocate to provide you with support from Employee Assistance Program (EAP) professionals to cope with personal, family and work issues. In addition, they can provide help navigating your healthcare and insurance, all at no cost to you. Our new partnership with HealthAdvocate takes our EAP to an even higher level of service than we have been able to offer previously.
HealthAdvocate's EAP includes robust services for all aspects of work/life balance including:
- 24/7 emergency hotline
- Live Chat on the HealthAdvocate website
- Up to five counseling sessions per issue (either face-to-face or via the EAP Behavioral Health telehealth platform)
- The option to search for mental health providers and schedule these sessions through your HealthAdvocate portal account
- Unlimited phone and web-based support for Work/Life services including childcare, eldercare, legal issues, financial wellness
- Personal Concierge Service for individual help with a wide range of personal tasks including travel research, restaurant reservations, party/event planning, ticketing and more.
HealthAdvocate can help you:
- Build skills to address a variety of emotional and mental health needs
- Locate resources such as childcare, eldercare and more
- Connect with specialists for help with work/life balance, legal and financial issues
- Get answers to your insurance questions and resolve billing issues
- Find the right in-network doctors, make appointments and transfer medical records
- Make informed decisions about medical conditions and diagnoses.
HealthAdvocate has been providing advocacy services for Lehigh employees since 2016 and these services will continue in addition to their EAP services. You will be able to connect with HealthAdvocate no matter where you are. You can access the HealthAdvocate member website or the mobile app to learn more about these services and explore resources to help you focus on your health and so much more.

*Should you use your behavioral health benefits through Capital Blue Cross or access the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?
This is a common question because the services provided by both can overlap a bit. The EAP would be recommended and suitable for more acute, short-term needs, as the program provides up to five free counseling sessions and valuable resources. If you feel that your concerns will not be appropriately addressed with only five sessions or the other resources available through the EAP, contact Capital Blue Cross to utilize your managed behavioral health coverage.
