Lehigh University has a strong commitment to the health, safety, and welfare of its faculty and staff members and their families. When a personal problem poses the potential to disrupt your personal and work life, Lehigh encourages you to take advantage of the university’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

What is an EAP?

EAPs have their origins in helping employees experiencing addiction, however, over the years, their services have grown to assist employees experiencing a wide variety of difficulties. Today, most EAPs offer referral and assessment services for *behavioral health, as well as financial, family, and work challenges.

*Should you use your behavioral health benefits through Capital Blue Cross or access the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?

This is a common question because the services provided by both can overlap a bit. The EAP would be recommended and suitable for more acute, short-term needs, as the program provides up to five free counseling sessions and valuable resources. If you feel that your concerns will not be appropriately addressed with only five sessions or the other resources available through the EAP, contact Capital Blue Cross to utilize your managed behavioral health coverage.
