If it helps to get through the doldrums of winter knowing that you can look forward to a fun outing in warmer weather, put June 20, 2015, on your calendars and plan to join ERAC in the annual Iron Pigs outing for Lehigh staff.  Ticket information will be sent in early spring.

Speaking of fun activities, nearly 200 Lehigh staff members attended LVAIC Night at the Phantoms Hockey game November 15 at PPL Arena.  The response was so great, we’re looking at hosting another trip. Look for details early next semester.

Staff safety issues will be the topic at the December Knowledge @ Noon series.  Meet Chief Ed Shupp and learn personal safety strategies and how you can work with the Lehigh University Police Department to ensure a safer campus community for everyone.  Details will be emailed once a date is confirmed.

Along the lines of campus safety, since this past summer, more than 100 Lehigh employees have completed the day-long CPR/AED/First Aid training offered by Human Resources, in conjunction with ERAC and Lehigh’s Emergency Medical Services.  Additional sessions -- that lead to a two-year certification from the American Heart Association -- will be offered next semester.  These sessions fill quickly, so be sure to check with your supervisor and sign up as soon as information is released.

ERAC would like to thank the more than 30 staff members who attended a recent gathering to learn about the feedback from ERAC’s Focus Groups held in May.  One of our goals is to increase two-way communication with and for staff.  Participants in the focus group have helped to identify staff concerns across campus.  Based on that feedback, ERAC will focus on the key areas of staff morale, recognition and communication.  We will rely on your continued input to help us determine our direction.  The new ERAC website, scheduled to roll out shortly after the New Year, will provide opportunities for you to let us know what’s working here at Lehigh and what areas may need our attention.

How can you help us?
Continue to come to our events.  Your participation shows us that you are eager to learn more about your workplace.

Stay in touch.  Meet the ERAC members who serve on your behalf.  Make connections.  Don’t wait for big issues to emerge; let us know what your day-to-day experience at Lehigh is like.  Check out the website and use it.

When the time comes, nominate someone (or yourself) to join ERAC.  Good people with good ideas.  If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, we’d love to have you.  Not quite ready?  Remember to vote in the annual elections.  Learn about the people who are committed to advancing the interests of fellow staff members and vote for those you think can get the job done.

Nominate someone for the ERAC Distinguished Service Award.  Information will come out in February, but purposefully looking for a nominee can start now.

As the year winds down, we wish you and yours a holiday season filled with the gifts that bring you joy and peace.

As always, we thank Lehigh staff for the various ways in which you show your continued support of ERAC because for ERAC, Staff Matters.
