The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently released a new version of Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification to be completed for all new hires.

This new form has a significantly different look than the previous version.  Some of the changes include:

  • A new easier to read format increasing the form to 2 pages
  • Expanded instructions to the form to reduce errors
  • Additional fields in Section 1 for email address, phone number, and foreign passport

You should begin using this newest version of Form I-9 immediately.  It is available on both thePayroll Office and Human Resource websites.  It is acceptable to print Form I-9 double-sided.  Employees must be given the form instructions and a list of acceptable documents, however, a master copy may be used to save paper.

The Form I-9 must be completed within 3 days of an employee’s hire date.  You may complete the form prior to the hire date, if the future employee has been offered and accepted the position.
